Submissions are now open to all for the Burrell Collection Poetry Competition.
Theme - Hidden Gems

Length - 20-30 lines
The theme of the competition is hidden gems. We are looking for poems that respond to some of the lesser-known objects in the collection which you have come across that deserve a chance to shine.
Each winner will receive a prize of £300, with winning poems featured on the Burrell Collection website and the Bloomberg Connects app.
The entries will be judged by panel led by Jim Carruth, Glasgow’s Poet Laureate.
We are seeking a diverse range of approaches, reflecting the variety of the Collection and the city of Glasgow, so all forms and viewpoints are welcome.
We welcome entries in English, Gaelic and Scots, poems in other languages will also be considered when submitted with an English translation
Poems should be between 20 and 30 lines in length and focus on an object in the Burrell Collection.

Entries must contain the following:
- Your name, address and contact details
- The name of the object that inspired the poem
- Your poem, attached in Word or PDF format
All entries must be submitted by 27th October 2023
Rules
- Poems must not be previously published, accepted for publication or currently entered into another competition.
- Each poem must be submitted as a Word or PDF document.
- Poems may be on any object currently on display within the Burrell Collection, with the exception of objects found here – https://burrellcollection.com/burrell-collection-top-30-objects
- Only one poem may be submitted by each entrant.
- All entries will initially be read by a team who will sift entries in preparation for the final judging.
- Closing date for entries is 27th October 2023.
- Winners will be notified by email by 15th December 2023
- Winning poems will be published on the Burrell Collection website and within the Bloomberg Connects app.
- The copyright of each poem remains with the writer. The winners must grant Glasgow Museums the right to use their winning poems, including in the Bloomberg Connects app, for two years from 1st January 2024.
