Art Fund Museum of The Year 2023

The Burrell Collection has been awarded the prestigious Art Fund Museum of the Year 2023 title, the world’s largest museum prize. It was one of two Scottish museums to make the shortlist in this year, alongside Scapa Flow Museum, Orkney. The other three finalists were Leighton House (London); The MAC (Belfast); Natural History Museum (London). Find out more here.

Scottish Thistle Awards - Best Visitor Attraction 2023

We picked up the award for 'Best Visitor Attraction' in Scotland at 2023's Scottish Thistle Awards hosted by Visit Scotland, following on from our success at the regional awards. Go Team Burrell!

Scottish Design Awards 2023

The Burrell Collection won five awards at the Scottish Design Awards, including a Gold Award in the Design for Good category, plus the prestigious judges Grand Prix award for ‘the best of the best’.

It won the Judge's Grand Prix Award and Gold Awards in four categories:

- Design for Good

- Architecture: Public Building

- Moving Imagery Design

- Experiential Design

Best Shop at Association of Cultural Enterprise Awards

We are home to the UK cultural sector's finest retail experience! 

In March 2023, The Burrell Collection won this prestigious award, described by the judges as "A stunning bright and open space with beautifully curated ranges showcasing sustainability - a natural extension of the collections"

Michael Middleton Special Award at Civic Trust Awards

In March 2023, we were awarded The Michael Middleton Special Award for the redevelopment of our building.

Architect's Journal Architecture Awards

In November 2022, The Burrell Collection won awards in both the Culture and Heritage categories in response to the refurbishment of this category A listed building. 

The prestigious awards celebrate and recognise design excellence in UK architecture across a range of key sectors. In addition to stand-out design, the judges considered how each project has met or exceeded its brief, promoted client and community engagement and how it has excelled in the use of space or sense of place, as well as sustainability measures put in place.

‘You really want to go back, and it’s really successful in terms of its sustainability,’ said the judges. ‘Now it’s a place that you go to experience the history around the collection.’

British Construction Industry Awards

On 12 October 2022, The Burrell Collection refurbishment project won Culture and Leisure Project of the Year and Project of the Year at the British Construction Industry Awards.

Chartered Institute of Public Relations Awards

Also on 12 October 2022, the communications strategy for the reopening won Silver for Consumer Relations Campaign at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Scotland Awards.

Visit Scotland | Scottish Thistle Awards (West)
