Art and fashion collide in this unique event set in the heart of the Burrell Collection where the museum becomes the runway. Gain an exclusive first look at designs by rising star fashion designer Flora McFarlane, nestled amongst the artefacts that inspired her collection. The evening culminates with a chance to explore the Burrell Collection after dark, and chat with the curators and conservators who research and care for the collection.

About Flora McFarlane

Specialising in knitwear and tailoring, Flora McFarlane is a young Scottish designer whose fashion is inspired by heritage textiles, craft, and environment.

Return to the Garden takes direct inspiration from artefacts within The Burrell's Collection. Each look responds to one or more objects from the museum. 'The Garden' forms the underlying narrative. Every culture over time has referenced the garden in art and artefacts, a universal theme that unites us, appearing in objects from vases to textiles. The museum’s collection, acquired through Glasgow’s wealthy 19th-century industrial past, where I play with the theme of heavy industrialisation vs nature, and how Glasgow's historic wealth displayed through the grand architecture, is now crumbling being reclaimed by nature.

Collaborating with Scottish manufacturers, MYB Textiles and Scottish Leather Group, as well as Glasgow-based jewellery designer Kyle Ferguson. The project unites heritage craftsmanship with contemporary design, celebrating the past, present, and future of Scottish fashion through sustainability, historic reference and storytelling.
