Drawing Inspiration - FAQ's

Drawing Inspiration combines the exhibition of 13 drawings by renowned artists with workshops and talks. The drawings are available to view daily at specific times throughout the run of the programme, full details including viewing time slots can be found by clicking here.

1st September - 26th November 2026, with daily 1 hour booking slots and regular workshops.

The drawings can be viewed daily at specific 1-hour slots, these can be booked on our website for free by clicking here.

As part of Drawing Inspiration, we are running a series of workshops exploring the theme of drawing for wellbeing.

They are;
o    Stretch and Sketch (13th September 2026), 
o    Life Drawing (26th September 2026), 
o    The Mindful Line - A Drawing Workshop for Art and Wellbeing (11th October 2026), 
o    The Mindful Line: Drawing Techniques for Art and Wellbeing (24th October 2026), 
o    Pause and Draw (15th November 2026), 
o    Sketchbook Stories: Drawing Techniques from the Collection (21st November 2026).

Museum entry remains free.

Viewing slots are free and can be booked in advance via our website. Workshops vary in price, with half being free, and can also be booked via our website.

Thirteen Burrell Collection drawings have been carefully selected to include a variety of techniques and media, including the delicate pencil marks of famous French classicist Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, the bold, black lines of Impressionist Eduard Manet, and the sweeping, intense drawing of Jean François Millet.

The selection will showcase the techniques of well-known artists, allowing visitors to view individual marks and strokes through close, intimate observation. This creates a personal and impactful way of connecting with artwork at close range, where visitors are encouraged to consider their own mark-making, and to interact with the works in a different way from how they might approach paintings in large gallery displays.

The focus will be on sharing the process of drawing so that visitors and participants can take part in their own drawing journey, inspired by the works on display.

It will be in the Special Exhibitions and Events Space (SEE Space) on our Lower Ground Floor, turning left at the bottom of the Central Stairs. Our Gallery Assistants and Volunteer Guides will be available to help you find it.

There will be an on-the-day waiting list that you can be added to however we strongly encourage you to book in advance since we may be fully booked.

Yes, tickets for viewing slots are free for all visitors but must be booked in advance. Half of our workshops are free and ticketed for all visitors however there is no discount available for Glasgow Museum members on our paid workshops.

Yes, for our paid workshops there are concessionary rates for adults on Supported Income (inc Disability/ Unemployment benefits), Young Adults Aged 16-25, Seniors Aged 65+, and Students (show card)

The viewing slots are suitable for children of all ages however our workshops are for ages 16+. All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Viewing slots are limited to one daily, if you miss the one you have booked your place may be given away to someone added to the waiting list on the day. You are welcome to book another slot at a later date. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate entry outwith the viewing slot.

We have free cloakroom facilities available at the reception desk. You may be asked to leave larger bags in our cloakroom.

Photos are allowed in the galleries, however to protect the light sensitive works on display, flash photography is not permitted. You can view our Photography and Filming guidelines here.

This is a unique opportunity to see these rarely exhibited works on paper from the Burrell Collection in an intimate, limited way. This exhibition is based around close, purposeful looking at these works, so we hope to create an environment that prioritises careful, considered reflection.
