Join us for a day of lively activities to celebrate the publication of Introducing European Arms and Armour by our curator Dr Ralph Moffat. Like the book, the day will include fascinating facts and imagination - inspiring accounts from the past.

11 am, Wicked Weapons and Gory Deaths

Curator Ralph Moffat will take you into the Burrell galleries to hear about the collection’s most scary weapons. Children young and old welcome. Meet at reception.

12 noon to 12.45pm and 2.00 pm to 2.45 pm: Knights in Armour

Meet a knight and squire from the medieval battlefield – aka historian Mark Griffin and armourer Fred Ryall – as we discover just what it was like being encased in armour. How heavy was it? Can you move easily? How do you eat and drink? Find out this and more by getting up close and personal with a knight in shining armour!

The demonstration at 12 noon looks at arms and armour of the medieval period; the demonstration at 2 pm examines weapons and armour of the early 1500s.

3.00 pm to 3.45 pm, The Burrell’s Finest

Curator and author Ralph Moffat will introduce highlights from the Burrell Collection, as featured in his new book Introducing European Arms and Armour. Includes a Q&A session.
